Ryoji Orihara

Fretless bass player

Ryoji Orihara (織原良次, March 29, 1980 –) is a Japanese fretless bassist.

.

He regularly performs with numerous jazz musicians

and supports great Japanese singers such as Lisa Ono, Ann Sally, Miyuki Hatakeyama, Kemono,

and more.

In 2005, he debuted by the legendary Brazilian music unit in Japan “Bophana” .

At the same time, he participated in "OMAsound" by jazz bassist Isao Suzuki.

He served as a host bassist for the Saturday

12-hour jam session hosted by Jazz Spot Intro for 15 years.

In 2009, he toured South America (Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Paraguay)

as part of a project sponsored by the Japan Foundation. In 2010,

he appeared in the Monterey Jazz Festival.

He went on long China tours with Lisa Ono’s band in2016,2017,2018,2019 and 2020.

He took charge of serializing the contents which dig a playstyle of Jaco Pastorius

by a Japanese bass specialized magazine "Bass Magazine" in 2016

as "the basic knowledge for bass learned from Jaco (all 12 times)".

In 2016,He was appointed a music director of Masahiro Sayama’s New Trio 'B'Ridge'.

In 2018, he started an improvising unit named "floor girl"　with dancer Yuhei Ara.

They had improvisational performances

by playing fretless basses and dancing in public baths as known as sento,

Bass solo Live tours across Japan are also held regularly.

Started installation work called "BGA (BackGround Ambient) “Toumei na Kagu" from 2010.

“Toumei na Kagu", meaning “Impalpable Furniture",

is an expression with the concept of

- Not background music

- Not a concert

- Not heat up.
